When Brian Johnson, managing partner of Godwin Austen Johnson (GAJ), decided to open the Dubai headquarters in 1991, he established a firm that has helped define not only the UAE’s skyline but also the landscape of cities across the Middle East by creating some of the region’s most iconic structures.

With over 30 years in business, GAJ is known as one largest and oldest design and architectural companies in the UAE. Today, under Brian’s leadership, the company offers a wide range of services including architecture, interior design, and MEP with outstanding expertise in the hospitality, education, leisure, residential, and commercial sectors.

Among his recent projects are The Warner Brothers Abu Dhabi, Curio Collection by Hilton, Miral Headquarters Abu Dhabi, and Arcadia High School.

Johnson has been practising architecture in the region for over 45 years, and with his distinct style and unwavering commitment to designing excellence, he has established a culture of excellence and is the preferred partner for many notable projects, resulting in the firm winning a slew of architectural awards.

His guiding principles are based on the goal to deliver bespoke one- off design solutions that respond to and build on the client’s hopes and aspirations to provide a long-lasting, functional, and appealing environment.

Among Johnson’s current projects include a residential development in Diriyah Gate in Saudi Arabia, a new park and exploration centre in Sharjah, and a Mediterranean-style residential development in Egypt, and others.
