The second edition of the Design Middle East Awards presented by du will be held on October 23, 2019, at Sofitel The Palm. The awards are all about the celebration of the creative best and foremost from the region’s design industry. The awards will honour the best of designers, architects, projects, design, and architectural companies. We would like to thank each of our sponsors for their continuous support.
Bauporte was started by Karel Bouman in 1992 in Amsterdam. Bouman took over the German company Grothkarst in 1996 who were a German door producer. They had been making high-quality doors since 1908. The reason to start the business here was to fill a gap in the market for custom-made doors. The market was full of companies making standard revolving doors but Bauporte has found a niche where clients want and expect something special.
They are currently working on Museum of the Future, The brand will be soon bringing the 4000 wide x 5000 tall doors for the Museum of the Future to Dubai before the end of the year. Bauporte is also working with Dubai Real Estate Company for its new headquarters office in Jumeriah. Bauporte is also working with Omniyat to supply and install new automatic sliding doors to the new ME Hotel at OPUS.
On collaborating with Design Middle East Awards, Paul Haslam, partner at Bauporte Gulf says: “We needed a platform where we could be a part of the architectural industry, to be seen and be a part of the industry that would, in theory, be specifying our products for projects that will be realised in the next two to three years is massively important to a business that’s new to the region. We are sure we will get the right exposure we need.”
On the business front, Bauporte is planning to expand. Haslam comments: “We are working on the designs for revolving doors in Europe of over 11m tall, this is something groundbreaking. In KSA we are hopeful of working with a leading brand to design and install two antique, retro-designed revolving doors which is a real challenge, using traditional materials but linked with traditional technology. Next month we will visit Korea and India to see if we can form partnerships with local teams in an attempt to expand the Bauporte portfolio across Asia. We are also looking at projects in Kuwait, Iran, and Algeria.”
