Andre Kikoski Architect works his magic on 75 Kenmare’s facade
New York City’s (NYC) chic NoLita neighbourhood is getting a high dose of luxury this winter with 75 Kenmare, NYC’s first luxury condo with interiors by Lenny Kravitz’s namesake design firm Kravitz Design.
DHA Capital, the developers and masterminds behind 75 Kenmare chose Manhattan-based architect Andre Kikoski to work on the façade this posh project. For 75 Kenmare’s façade, Kikoski intention was to relate to the architectural fabric of the NoLita neighbourhood. When approaching this project Kikoski and his team first researched the ways in which hand-laid brick is used to create detail and expression in historic buildings around NoLita and the surrounding downtown Manhattan context.
They observed traditional soldier coursed details that create texture with vertical bricks in alternating flush and recessed planes. They studied stacked bond brickwork, which created rhythm by alternating the narrow horizontal wythe and wide horizontal course of a single brick type to create a rich and complex monumental multi-story expression.
