A range of pre-constructed, energy efficient lifestyle pods, designed and manufactured in the UK have become the latest solution in creating additional room space for commercial and residential use. Launching in the Middle East at Arabian Travel Market 2018, the Armadilla collection of unique, Scandinavian style pods can be adapted to a variety of innovative hospitality uses including spa treatment rooms, glamping accommodation and pop-up retail spaces.
Constructed primarily from sustainably sourced Acoya wood, with a marine grade stainless steel framework, the striking Armadilla design is inspired by the mathematical principles of the Golden Ratio and Fibonacci Curve. Its pointed ceiling, curved walls and circular window ensure a spacious, airy environment and outstanding ventilation, as well as remarkable acoustic properties. This innovative shape and efficient use of space shape has been designed to minimize energy in its use of lighting, cooling and heating.
Built to meet and exceed the UK’s high build standards, the Armadilla is delivered with easy to connect electrics, plumbing and functional air conditioning. Depending on the purpose of use, the pod will be delivered with fully fitted, customised interiors.
As glamping accommodation, in these lifestyle pods between two and four people can sleep comfortably and offer all the luxuries associated with a boutique hotel room including an innovative en-suite bathroom with integrated shower, hand basin, and WC.
As a spa therapy room, the pod is a place of calm and well-being with space for a central therapy bed, and lots of space for treatment equipment, shelving and storage cupboards as well as a sink and shower unit if required. The colour-changing LED wall-wash lighting and dimmable down lighters help create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.
Colin Jones, partner – Armadilla Middle East explains that the applications of this sustainable, moveable pod are endless. “We currently have hospitality clients looking at the pods for spa extensions and ambient, beach-side treatment rooms, retail pop ups in outdoor areas, in addition to private daytime cabanas for beach front properties. Another advantage of these moveable structures is that they are temporary buildings so don’t need planning permission and can be installed and removed very easily.”
With a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, Armadilla has won numerous Green Awards and has been active in the promotion of high environmental standards including the European Ecolabel in the hospitality sector.
“Everything in the Armadilla is recyclable. Having an offsite construction facility in the UK was a tactical decision to allow us to reclaim and recycle materials at the end of life for reuse in some other function, thus achieving the highest efficiency and minimise waste,” adds Jones.
