Broadway Interiors introduces Indi 16, a vibrant Indian tapas and shisha lounge at CityMax Business Bay, blending bold Indian flavours with contemporary design to create a dynamic and immersive dining experience.

A 5,300 sqft lounge at CityMax Business Bay, Indi 16 combines sleek interiors with a 99-seat indoor area and a 72-seat outdoor terrace, offering a modern take on cultural design with views of the Dubai skyline
September 10th, 2024, Dubai, UAE – Broadway Interiors, renowned for its edgy and bold designs in restaurants and nightclubs, has recently completed the interiors for Indi 16—a vibrant Indian tapas and shisha lounge located on the 16th floor of CityMax Business Bay. Spanning over 5,300 sq ft, the venue
boasts an indoor capacity of 99 and an outdoor shisha terrace that accommodates 72 guests, offering panoramic views of the Dubai skyline. The fit-out was carried by Gateway Interiors.

Indi 16 represents a perfect fusion of cultural inspiration and modern elegance. Situated within a business hotel, the venue caters to a diverse clientele, including business travelers, local residents, and international visitors. This project also marks the beginning of a strong partnership between Broadway Interiors and CityMax Hotels, for which they recently completed two High-So nightclubs. As a result, Indi 16 offers a fresh and exciting destination for those seeking a unique dining experience in Dubai.
Chris Barnes, owner and founder of Broadway Interiors, explains the overall design concept: “Indi 16 was about creating a space that reflects the richness of Indian culture while providing a modern environment that would appeal to both locals and the international audience Dubai attracts. We wanted to
create an experience that connects tradition with contemporary aesthetics, offering guests an inviting space.”

The journey to creating Indi 16 wasn’t without challenges. The project required navigating municipal approvals to increase the gross floor area (GFA) of the hotel. Once the green light was received, Broadway Interiors was tasked with transforming a complex space—50% of which was located
outdoors with no windows or mechanical services—into a functional interior. “Logistically, this project was challenging because we were working with an outdoor space, no MEP services, and multiple design constraints. But that gave us the opportunity to think creatively about how to transform the area
into something truly unique,” Barnes adds.

The venue’s name, Indi 16, draws its inspiration from Indian cuisine and its location on the 16th floor of the hotel. The overall design is divided into two distinct experiences: the indoor space features a more intimate atmosphere, influenced by the limited natural daylight, while the shisha terrace embraces
panoramic views of the Dubai skyline.

The entrance itself sets the tone, welcoming guests with bold neon signage that contrasts against red walls. The geometric floor tiles and sleek brushed gold lighting add to the venue’s eclectic interiors.

Inside, the bar is the main centerpiece, featuring turquoise tiles paired with brass accents. Leather-upholstered stools and overhead suspended liquor shelves give the area a refined look. The seating area features plush velvet chairs and intimate booths, set against the colourful wall murals, featuring iconic skylines from cities around the world to add interest.

One of the standout areas of Indi 16 is the shisha lounge, which provides great views of Dubai’s skyline. This outdoor space balances luxury and relaxation, featuring plush red and purple sofas alongside contemporary rattan chairs.

Due to its location within a hotel, soundproofing was a key consideration during the design phase. Broadway Interiors worked with an acoustic consultant to ensure the noise from the late-night venue wouldn’t disturb the guests staying in rooms below.
