Global multidisciplinary design studio JPA Design announced a major new partnership with Air India, revealing a comprehensive interior transformation for the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, including new deliveries and retrofits of existing aircraft. JPA Design are working collaboratively with TrendWorks on the project. As JPA Design’s first complete redesign wide-body programme with Air India, the project represents a defining milestone in the airline’s broader transformation, introducing a sophisticated new design language that reflects contemporary Indian identity and sets a new standard for the carrier’s future long-haul experience.

Air India’s renewed ambition to become a truly world-class global airline guided every aspect of the design process. The JPA Design and TrendWork’s cabin concept brings together the airline’s revitalised brand personality, characterised by boldness, warmth, vibrancy and progressive thinking, into an interior that feels elevated, confident and unmistakably Air India. The result is a completely reimagined 787 environment that spans Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins, each connected through a holistic design ethos that balances refined detailing with a warm, human-centred sensibility.

The cabin palette draws inspiration from Air India’s signature colours, thoughtfully adapted for the aerospace environment into a harmonious family of soft cream, pink, reds, warm golds, and rich purples. These tones are complemented by tactile materials inspired by natural textures and modern craftsmanship, supporting a sensorial experience that evokes quiet luxury and authenticity.

The redesigned 787 interior features refined seat architecture and enhanced comfort across all cabins, with thoughtful touches that elevate personal space, well-being and functionality. Across the aircraft, passengers will notice improved stowage solutions, updated surfaces and finishes, and a cohesive aesthetic that threads from entryway to aisle to seat. The cabin has been shaped with a clear focus on intuitive usability, with soft curves and warm lighting cues, and thoughtful integration of modern technologies and gestures of hospitality that reflect the welcoming spirit at the heart of Air India’s brand personality.

“Air India entrusted us with the task of helping to define a new era for the airline,” says Richard D’Cruze, Managing Director at JPA Design. “Our design goal was to create an interior that feels modern, elegant and deeply considered, while staying true to the vibrancy and warmth that define Indian hospitality. Every detail has been designed to bring Air India’s renewed ambition to life, delivering a world-class experience for passengers from the moment they step on board.”

The unified design story across the Dreamliner fleet reflects Air India’s broader multi-year transformation, which encompasses new aircraft, service enhancements and a contemporary brand identity. This redesigned 787 serves as the first expression of a new design standard that will shape future Air India wide-body aircraft, creating a consistent and recognisable experience across the airline’s international network.

Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Air India, said: “The new 787 interiors capture the confidence and optimism of the new India, offering our guests an experience that is warm, modern and globally competitive. “The teams at JPA Design and TrendWorks have played a pivotal role in helping us bring this vision to life.” The new Air India Boeing 787-9 featuring the new cabin interiors enters commercial service beginning 1 February 2026, marking an important moment in the airline’s evolution and setting the blueprint for an entirely new chapter in its long-haul journey.
