POINT wins the National Design Award 2019
The Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities has awarded POINT the National Design Award 2019 in the ‘Business’ category. The award recognises companies that incorporate design into their business strategy and contribute to the improvement of society and people’s quality of life.
As the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities explains in their statement, the jury awarded “their continuous and sustainable upward development, with a business strategy oriented towards internationalisation, which has contributed to disseminating and consolidating the design ecosystem and giving it visibility. With a philosophy of responsible consumption and a desire to reduce environmental impact, their commitment to interconnecting crafts and tradition with design and innovation, while remaining loyal to natural materials, stands out.”
POINT is a brand of designer outdoor furniture which, over its 100-year history involving four generations of the Pons family, has evolved from a small workshop founded in 1920 in Gata de Gorgos (Alicante) to become an international firm with a presence in more than 70 countries. With more than 43 collections and 300 products, its furniture adorns more than 1,000 interior design projects from around the world.
Design and innovation are essential components of its business trajectory and growth and these, along with craftsmanship, sustainability, family, people and talent, constitute the company’s core values.
For Paco Pons, export director of POINT, this recognition “has been achieved thanks to the work of the people who are and have been part of POINT over these 100 years. Without them it would not have been possible. This National Design Award recognises our effort to continually focus on innovation and design since our inception, in addition to maintaining traditions, craftsmanship and our commitment to sustainable and responsible production.”
In 2020, POINT will celebrate its centenary, a celebration that will highlight the evolution and growth of the firm as regards both export volume and turnover. This development has been facilitated by the increase, year on year, of expenditure on R+D+i, which since 2016 has increased by more than 25%.
POINT has two showrooms, one in Gata de Gorgos, established in 2003, and the other opened in New York in 2019. The company boasts 42 collections and more than 300 products. It has more than 1,000 contract projects in which its products are present, from Punta Mita in Mexico, to South Korea and Dubai, among many others.
