At Swiss Bureau, every project begins with its roots — and in the case of Al Barakah’s new headquarters, those roots belong quite literally to the date palm.

Commissioned to design the new workspace for Al Barakah, one of the region’s leading producers of date products, Swiss Bureau was presented with a brief as sweet as the client’s business: to create a workplace that reflects tradition, innovation, and just the right touch of understated flair.

A Brief Rooted in Legacy

The design concept took shape from the date palm tree, a powerful cultural symbol of resilience and abundance. Its strength, textures, and graceful presence were reinterpreted into a refined 9,380 sqft workplace spread across two levels in Dubai — a modern oasis where heritage meets high performance.

At the heart of the space sits a sculptural central volume clad in Desert Board, a sustainable material crafted from recycled palm leaves. This feature is more than just an architectural centerpiece; it serves as a bold statement on sustainability, a tribute to Al Barakah’s core product, and a symbolic homage to the trees that built the company’s success.

Surrounding this core is a calming palette of sandy neutrals, muted greens, and caramel tones, inspired by the desert at dusk. The effect is a serene, timeless environment designed for daily work — and the occasional coffee-and-date break.

Design with Purpose

A spacious lounge area was introduced to serve as a flexible zone where Al Barakah can host clients, hold informal meetings, or stage memorable gatherings.

To root the space back to the company’s agricultural origins, the design incorporates natural materials, including earthy brick finishes and abundant greenery. These elements act as quiet reminders that Al Barakah’s story is one that begins with nature — and thrives because of it.

The overall design strikes a balance between industrial honesty, natural warmth, and minimalist sophistication. Subtle biophilic elements, layered textures, and a carefully curated material palette enhance the atmosphere, while the use of industrial-style glass nods to the company’s role in large-scale production.

Together, these design decisions reflect a clear narrative: one that honors tradition, embraces innovation, and creates a workspace that is as meaningful as it is functional. In this case, it’s the story of a company deeply rooted in legacy — and looking confidently toward the future.
