Powerlist Creative 30 2022 : Christian Merieau MANAGING DIRECTOR/ PARTNER MMAC DESIGN ASSOCIATES
MMAC Design, based in Dubai, is a multi-award-winning interior design firm that specialises in luxury, up-scale, and upper mid-scale hotel and restaurant design. They are a group of dedicated architects, interior designers, and project managers who specialise in hospitality projects. The firm has successfully designed and delivered hotel projects for all major international hotel operators in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Merieau explains: “As customer-centric advocates, we believe that products, spaces, and services must be engaging, authentic, and memorable while also considering the end-sustainability, product’s operational efficiency, and financial profitability. We can have an impact on all phases of the project, from pre-concept to post-opening, by working closely with stakeholders and field teams. We design environments that bring people together. We want to go beyond just creating beautiful spaces by providing excellent services and genuine experiences. We believe that a project must be greater than its parts. We choose projects in which we believe, and we work from brand narrative to design direction to guest experience to transform great ideas into tangible solutions. All aspects of our work from visualisation to construction detailing are carried out in house and under one roof. Our core strength is the flexibility of our design style and our innate ability to work within a variety of themes. Being passionate about creative narration, we firmly believe that every project holds within it a story to be told.
MMAC Design established new design standards in early 2022 by implementing a specific Designer Quality Control Plan for preconstruction activities. These guidelines represent minimum requirements for successful design implementation. Before the Consultant begins any design work, MMAC Design’s Quality Assurance Engineer approves the project-specific Designer Quality Control Plan. Regardless of schedule or deadline, adherence to the project-specific Designer Quality Control Plan is required. This well-organised Designer Quality Control Plan assists in ensuring that designs are cost-effective, buildable, maintainable, and appropriate for their locations and surroundings.
MMAC Design has won a slew of prestigious awards in various categories such as hotels, restaurants, design concept, and has also won many competitions.
The design firm is dedicated to leading the industry in reducing the environmental impact of its operations. “As an organisation, we monitor and analyse our environmental performance and strive for continuous improvement by measuring our office activities. We have also implemented energy-saving procedures and systems, as well as equipment and devices to monitor our energy consumption. Furthermore, we check for CE marking on products to ensure the manufacturer’s declaration that the product meets EU standards for health, safety, and environmental protection,” Merieau adds.
MMAC Design’s ongoing hotel projects include the Hotel Tribute Portfolio resort on Mahe Island (Seychelles), the Hotel Rotana in Fujairah, the Hotel Golden Tulip in Riyadh (KSA), and the Hotel Crown Plaza in Petra (Jordan). The firm is also working on exciting master residential projects such as Nakheel’s Jebel Ali Village residential development and Nakheel’s District One West residential development.
