Creating an inspiring space that makes a good first impression on guests is something that most homeowners desire. With that in mind, Ethan Allen’s Abu Dhabi-based lead designer, Aseel Sarieh, reveals how one can style their home like a professional interior designer, with tips and tricks that can turn an average scheme into a fabulous space.

It is said there is a world of difference between a room designed by a professional interior designer and one done by a passionate home decorator. From balancing colour schemes to adding key textures and decorative pieces in certain places, one can create the perfect setting and ambiance that truly embodies design, whilst relishing in a personal sense of style.

Sarieh has rounded up some of her favourite expert tips for bringing life to a space through simple steps that are key for those who want to accentuate their homes:

Add big statement furniture pieces
“There is a consensus among designers that the biggest items should be the sofas, beds,
chairs, and rugs. Since these are often the statement pieces that carry a room, they should anchor the design and become the focal point of the room, so let the fabrics and textures play a key role in determining the direction for the rest of it.” Sarieh says.

Add texture to your home
Adding texture to your space could mean anything from layering different textures, materials, colour scheme and patterns. Rugs can also add colour and pattern to a room, and they can also help define different areas. There are many kinds of rugs available, so you can find one that will complement the style of your home. If you’re looking for a way to add colour to your room, consider choosing the Ethan Allen Cloud Rug as it is a vision in blue, with cream and grey tones that would add a touch of something special to any room.

Use trays and decorative pieces
Accessories and other small items are also carefully selected by designers. “Pillows,
frames, trays, candles, and miniature sculptures all have such versatility, and choosing the right assortment over time is imperative,” she says. “Most people don’t become collectors overnight,” she says. “Most of our art and accessories have a story to tell.”

And it doesn’t have to be a costly process. Try displaying framed children’s artwork, books and magazines, she says. “Instead of rushing out to buy all new things, think about what you already have that can bring personality to space.”
Use what is at hand and add the slightest bits around to add some personality to the space.

Add flowers to refresh your home spaces
Last but definitely not the least, a home can be made more welcoming by adding flowers to many areas throughout the house. and add a pop of colour and infuse the area with life and provide a wonderful and fresh look to brighten up the space.

Styling your space can help improve the appearance and feel of your home. By following these tips, you can make your home look more coordinated and polished, which can help make it feel more like a sanctuary.
