Amer Mneimneh is a strategic planner and urban designer with a background in architecture.
He has more than 20 years of Middle East experience.
As a vice president, Mneimneh leads 90+ staff within AECOM’s Middle East Urbanism + Planning practice and drives growth by ensuring clients receive the firm’s best technical practice, excellent design, and innovative thinking.
He is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive team to help AECOM achieve its vision of a future where infrastructure generates opportunity for everyone, uplifting communities, enhancing access, and preserving the environment.
Mneimneh moved to Dubai in 2004 with Dar Group to contribute to the design and delivery of Jebel Ali Airport and Palm Jumeirah.
In 2007, he joined AECOM, an industry-leading consulting and Fortune 500 firm.
He was exposed to global and regional projects where his ability to address complex briefs, passion for design and understanding of cultural diversity paved a way for accelerated career growth.
Mneimneh relocated to London, UK, early in his career with AECOM to support the firm’s work on the award-winning Saadiyat Island master plan, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games master plan, and the Rawabi sustainable community in Ramallah, as well as Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Mneimneh worked on the city, community development, urban regeneration, and strategic planning projects after returning to the Middle East in 2009.
The award-winning Dubai Expo 2020 Urban Planning and Public Realm, where he led the bidding, planning, and delivery stages, as well as the Jeddah Strategic Plans, Dubai Harbour, Bluewaters, Bastakiya Urban Regeneration, Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter, and Al Msheireb Downtown Doha, to name a few, are among the transformative projects he contributed to.
Recently, Mneimneh has been advising the public sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the planning and implementation of Vision 2030 initiatives focused on quality of life improvement.
In response to the market demand, Mneimneh is currently focussed on growing AECOM’s team of urban planning professionals in the Kingdom while maintaining a centre of excellence in UAE.
While COVID-19 presented us with personal and professional obstacles, Mneimneh thinks that the future belongs to cities, communities, and organisations that prioritise wellness, resilience, and adaptability.
Mneimneh has gained vast international expertise through involvement in projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Egypt, Northern Africa, and Europe during his 20+ years of experience.
Mneimneh sits on AECOM’s global ESG and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) steering committees, in addition to his leadership and technical roles, to embed sustainable development and resilience across AECOM’s activities and encourage an inclusive and diverse working environment.
He also engages regularly with universities on career development programmes and participates as a critic on academic projects.
As an active member of AECOM’s thought leadership group that researches and addresses complex matters our industry and cities faces, he is currently completing a paper on Dubai’s urban fabric adaptability to new wellbeing and quality of life agenda.
Mneimneh is a registered architect, a member of the Lebanese Order of Engineers and Architects, and a founding board member of the Urban Land Institute GCC Council.
